Appe is one of the most popular South Indian breakfast items that looks like a ball and is liked by adults and kids alike.
The Appe made in these moulds are crispy from outside and soft from inside and the cooking time is comparatively less than the modern day appe maker. Let’s see the recipe of instant rava appe and share it with your friends and family.
Preparation Time:
30 Minutes
Preparation time 15 to 20 min
Cooking time 5 to 10 min
INGREDIENTS
Semolina (SUJI) -1 cup
Curd -1/4 cup
Onion-1 finely chopped
Green chilles-2 finely chopped
Baking Soda-1 tsp
Eno /Fruit salt -1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Mustard seeds
Fresh Curry leave (Curry patta)
Water for making the batter
To make Rava Appe, take semolina (Suji) in a mixing bowl add onions, green chili, curd and salt and mix well. Now add water to this mixture by stirring continuously so that no lumps are formed. The batter should be more on the thicker side.
Now keep the batter closed with a lid for a few minutes let the batter mix and settle properly. If you find the batter thick you can add water. Now add baking soda mix well. Lastly add Eno/fruit salt just before transferring the batter in the appam maker. This is because batter tends to rise and becomes fluffy and this immediately needs to be transferred to the Appe mould and this is the right consistency of the batter required to prepare Appe.
Here I am using a bronze Appe maker. First, apply olive oil in each cavity and then heat the appe maker on high flame. Once the mould gets really hot, simmer the flame and carefully add the batter in each cavity one by one.
Cover the mould with a lid and let it cook for 2-3 min till the batter transforms into balls and becomes really fluffy. Now remove the appe carefully and flip it on the other side till it becomes golden brown. Put some oil in another pan, heat it up on high flame and add some mustard seeds and curry leave to it. Use these leaves and mustard seeds to garnish the Appe in the mould and serve them hot in the mould itself.
