Apsara, one of the heavenly dancers and vocalists who, along with the Gandharvas, or celestial bands, occupy the dreamland of the god Indra, the ruler of the sky, in Hindu religion and folk tales. They lived in temples and performed elaborate rituals and ceremonies at night. Apsara sculptures are associated with fertility and strength and represent perfection, power, easiness, and authority.
