This is indeed a truly lovely piece of old Indian workmanship - a sturdily made domed lid box, most likely originally for spices, paan, or betel. It is made of heavy gauge brass and features a beautiful hand engraved design on the body and lid, as well as an ornate handcrafted handle, chain-hinges, and clasp. The piece is most likely from the nineteenth century. It looks great as a decorative piece and would make an excellent jewellery box.
