The Hindu Goddess Kali Maa, also known as Goddess Durga, is the mother of the universe and is thought to be the power behind the work of creation, according to the Yajur Veda, Vajasaneyi Samhita, and Taittareya Brahman. The name Kali means "black," but according to folk etymology, it also means "time force (kala)." Today, Kali is revered as the goddess of change and time. Although she is sometimes portrayed as dark and violent, her original incarnation as a figure of utter destruction still has some sway. In more complex Tantric beliefs, she is sometimes considered the "ultimate truth" or Brahman. This handmade brass idol would be ideal as a temple sculpture or statue.
