This paper print by Raja Ravi Varma depicts Lakshmana and Sreerama Seetha Devi in the forest during Vanavas. As Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana set out on their fourteen-year journey through the forests after being exiled from Ayodhya, this image emphasises the sorrow of exile. Rama will eventually return to the palace to be crowned as the proper monarch of the realm. Rama and Sita proved to be a popular subject for pictures to be displayed in homes as the example of loving marriage was put to the test through adversity.
