The seer, a historic unit of mass and volume, was legally determined to be equal to 0.93310 kg, or 2.057131 lb, in 1956 by the Standards of Weights and Measures Act. Previously, different parts of the country had their own interpretations of the measurement: in Bengal, a seer was equal to 80 tolas of rice; in the north, a seer was equal to 80 tolas of rice; and in the south, a seer was equal to 80 tolas of rice.
