Sun of Scholars ("Shams al-'Ulama") Syed Mir Hassan was a Qur'an, Hadith, Sufism, and Arabic language scholar who lived from 18 April 1844 until 25 September 1929. He was an Arabic lecturer at Sialkot's Scotch Mission College. The British Crown bestowed upon him the title of Shams al-'Ulama' ("Sun of Scholars"). He was Sir Muhammad Iqbal's famous instructor, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, as well as the uncle of Syed Nazeer Niazi, the son of his brother Syed Abdul Ghani. Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was a tremendous fan of both brothers.
